What is the CMI Global Fellowship?
Hosted by the renowned Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) in Bergen, Norway, the CMI Global Fellowship is a three-month, fully funded program designed to foster research excellence and collaboration among scholars from the Global South. Purpose of the CMI Global Fellowships
The CMI Global Fellowship aims to empower scholars from non-OECD countries by providing space for them to further develop their academic publications and fostering mutual exchanges and collaboration with CMI researchers. The fellowships have been established as part of CMI’s commitments to Equal Knowledge Production and addressing injustices inherent in current global research practices.

Who Should Apply For CMI Global Fellowship?
- Early-career researchers from non-OECD countries, with preference to those residing outside OECD countries
- Candidates with a master’s degree, a strong research track record, and a compelling research proposal aligned with CMI’s research themes (conflict, environment, climate, natural resources, democracy, governance, humanitarianism, corruption, gender, rights, global health, and poverty).
- Scholars from various disciplines, including history, law, anthropology, economics, sociology, geography, political science, or area studies.
- Important: Applicants must be employed or enrolled in a study program in their country of residence during the fellowship.
