What Sets the Fellowship Apart?

The journey of a fellow: 

  1. The fellow will first be enrolled into a residential training institute where they will be taught the skills and mindsets to be a teacher who teaches in an innovative and reimagined way. 
  2. Then the fellows will be posted in schools that serve students from low-income communities. 
  3. After the fellow’s first year, the fellow can choose to do a summer internship where they explore a new dimension of educational equity.
  4. In year two, the fellows continue to teach and learn. They also build entrepreneurial skills through a Be The Change project, where you focus on a barrier in education that the fellows would like to solve.
  5. Towards the end of your journey, the fellows will engage with a career fair, where they are supported to find a job at the intersection of your purpose, passion and educational equity.

Where will the fellows teach? 

The fellows will be placed as a full-time teacher in an English medium government or affordable private school. They will be located in one of 8 cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai or Pune. They will later be placed in a grade 1-10 classroom and teach between 40 and 80 Students. They may be a class teacher, teaching all subjects, or a subject teacher teaching specific subjects like English, Maths, Social Studies or Science. The medium of instruction will be English.

The qualities of an ideal fellow include the fellow believing in equitable and excellent education for all the students. They demonstrate leadership potential and openness to learning. They demonstrate courage and problem solving skills and that they are able to work in a collaborative environment. 

Teach for India Fellowship Selection Criteria

The procedure for evaluation of the application for the fellowship is as follows:

  • Online Application: Share your achievements, interests, experiences and motivations for joining the Teach For India Fellowship.
  • Phone Interview: A short 30-minute discussion may be required on your submitted Application.
  • Attend the assessment center: The Assessment Centre is an immersive experience into the life of a Fellow. A chosen few are invited to participate in activities involving teaching, group work and critical thinking. You can attend it either online or in person.

The application deadline is 11:59 PM IST, 1st SEPT 2024.
