The fellowship is a two-year full-time program focused on hands-on teaching at government schools in rural districts. Participants will gain a deep immersion in education, developing their perspectives while engaging in the activities of the District Institute (DI) where they are placed. This experience prepares fellows for roles in the DI after completing the program. The Azim Premji foundation offers opportunities for understanding education through teaching and capacity building, with participants benefiting from mentorship and practical field experience. Fellows will be posted to rural districts in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Telangana, requiring them to adapt to challenging living conditions
Roles & Responsibilities
A resource person will have to conduct professional development programs for Teachers and head teachers on varied topics like
- Perspectives on education and society
- Subject knowledge (Early Language and Math is a specific focus area currently)
- Pedagogy and assessment
- Academic leadership
The resource person would also be expected to develop a community of teachers and improve their interaction with the children through peer learning, collaborative work, reflective practices and contributing to the management of all the teaching centers.
Fellowship Selection Process
The Azim Premji Foundation Committee’s selection process includes the following rounds:
Online Application. Candidates must apply online, choosing between Resource Person and Teacher positions, but can only apply for one at a time. The application will be scrutinized and examined, and once the eligibility criteria is met and the application shortlisted, the applicants will be selected for the written test.
Written Test. Shortlisted applicants will receive an Admit Card via email. They will also be allotted a test center based on their preference. The test may cover general awareness, subject experience, and educational capacity based on the position applied for.
Recruiter Screening. Candidates who pass the written test will have a preliminary discussion with a committee member about the position requirements, their qualifications, current job, salary, and relocation details.
Interview Rounds. There may be multiple interview stages, with candidates being shortlisted at each stage. Discussions will focus on role-specific aspects and the candidate’s fit with the organization. It might cover domains like perspectives on education, subject knowledge, content and pedagogy understanding and practices, communication skills, values and dispositions.
If the candidate is selected after the final interview and all documentation and other formalities are completed accurately, they will receive the offer letter.
Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility to be selected as a resource person at the foundation:
- Graduation with a minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience OR post graduation with a minimum of 2 years’ teaching experience
- Candidates with relevant on-field experience in the social sector may also apply
- Willingness to travel within the district/state
- Language proficiency in Hindi and English
